Oncology Massage Course
10th & 11th March 2018
We have the pleasure of welcoming senior lecturer Susan Findlay from NLSSM to deliver her very popular Oncology Massage Course.
With this two day practical course you can make a difference! Research now demonstrates that massage has beneficial outcomes for client who live with cancer. There are so many myths that surround the delivery of oncology massage that we must work hard to dispel them. Massage for cancer is now being used for symptom control and improving a person’s quality of life. By working sensitively and intuitively to help people manage their condition we can make a difference.
The online portion of the Oncology Massage Course will cover the technical information you need in order to make appropriate choices in care, it will also prepare you for the practical workshops wherein the main focus will be on case studies and hands on skills, plus working with walk in clients. The online powerpoint video presentation will help you to understand the basics of how cancer forms, learn all about the research behind oncology massage, understand the different types of treatment and their side effects including the disease process itself. This is a requirement prior to you doing the practical days.
The practical workshops involve learning hands-on skills to use immediately. The morning will start with reviewing online coursework, answering any questions, then we will move onto exploring various intake forms that are specific to cancer clients, performing a full assessment using case studies to prepare you to work in clinic later in the afternoon. Each clinic treatment will be followed by a feedback session to review and consider a deeper understanding, suggest alternative or creative approaches, discuss what went well and what you would change.
